Trieste Installed at the five-story ICGEB (International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology) building, the TEON dual-stage heat pump simultaneously produces chilled water and thermal energy. While the chilled water is sold to the distribution system consisting of convector heaters, the thermal energy at 85 °C is delivered to a lithium bromide absorber that recovers the thermal waste, producing, in turn, additional free cooling energy with near-zero electric). The heat pump works in summer using return water, either from the air conditioning distribution systems at 12 °C or from the absorber at 85 °C.

The heat pump was put to serve laboratories, conference rooms, offices, bathrooms, common rooms, and storage, covering an area of about 5,000 square meters.
